Bratislava, 18 January 2021 – Toll collection for the National Motorway Company reached the amount of € 16.04 million in December 2020, which is 8.2% more than in December 2019. For all of 2020, a toll in the amount of €210.94 million was collected. Compared to the previous year, the collection was lower by 4.6%. Since the commissioning of the complex system of electronic toll collection in 2010, the total amount of toll collection reached €2,021.13 mil. A toll discount for the whole 2020 was granted in 62,353 cases, of which 47,411 were from Slovakia. The provided discount reached the amount of €3.8 million, of which €3.3 million (86.5%) was for vehicles registered in Slovakia.

The specified sections of motorways and expressways earned €10.95 million on toll collection in December 2020. The specified sections of 1st category roads earned €5.08 million for the same period. Of the total amount of the tolls collected for December, foreign vehicle operators paid 46.9%. The day with the highest toll collection in the monitored month was December 14th, with a collected amount of €906,484. In December the specified road sections were daily used by 30,429 unique vehicles over 3.5 tons on average.

For all of 2020, the toll collection for the use of specified sections of motorways and expressways reached the amount of € 141.96 million. The specified sections of 1st category roads earned €68.98 million for the whole year. Operators of vehicles registered abroad paid 46.3% of the annual toll collection. Among the foreign users of the specified road sections the highest amount in 2020, just as in the previous years, was paid by vehicles from Poland (18.8%), followed by the Czech Republic (7.4%) and Hungary (5.3%). In the breakdown of revenues according to the payment mode, the highest collection was in the prepay toll mode with a share of 56.2% of the total annual amount. Also in 2020, the operators of lorries in the weight category over 12 t with two axles had the highest share of the annual toll collection, which paid €172.25 million. In terms of emission classes the biggest share of toll collection (87%) was achieved by vehicles of the EURO V, IV and EEV class with €183.5 million.

As at 31 December 2020 there were 276,600 OBUs registered in the electronic toll system. Of this figure, 74.3% were for vehicles from abroad. In 2020 the specified road sections were daily used by 36,543 unique vehicles over 3.5 tons on average. In all of 2020 the electronic toll system was used by 368,988 unique vehicles equipped with a registered on-board unit.

In 2020 mobile enforcement units dealt with 3 838 cases of violation of Act on Electronic Toll Collection on the specified road sections. Checked drivers had to pay a toll in the amount of €43.52 thousand. Slovak vehicle operators accounted for 6% of the amount collected.

For the previous year SkyToll recorded 569 justified submissions in terms of the electronic toll collection operation. These included 556 claims, 8 requests and 5 suggestions. Also in 2020, as in the previous ten years of the complex service of electronic toll collection, all received submissions were handled within 5 business days.

In 2020, the customer service line received a total of 75.2 thousand calls. The most frequently asked questions on the customer service line concerned fees and prices (25.3 thousand calls). The second most frequent were requests for the provision of general information on the electronic toll system (17.5 thousand calls) and the third position was held by requests for information concerning the return of on-board units (9.6 thousand calls). The toll web portal recorded 674.4 thousand visitors, of which 299.6 were from Slovakia.
